Don’t Rush: The Wisdom Of Moving At Your Own Pace
Over the past few years, it has felt like time is moving faster. I can remember where I was 5 years ago like it was yesterday. How much has transpired since feels like a blur that I haven’t had the chance to process because of a consistent feeling of urgency. The demands of my life and what I witness in those I commune with are heavier while also feeling delicate. This has especially rang true over the past year, where stressors are increasing rapidly for many. Rising costs, sociopolitical instability, and collective exhaustion are on constant replay each day. For me at least, it feels like a break is needed - but the urgency of the times delays the intuitive nudging to slow down.
To be in a bind where the body is signaling one thing but the lived reality is demanding another is a tension that I witness others grappling with. Questions that surface are:
When can I slow down?
How long of a break do I need?
What is at risk if I change pace?
After pondering and searching for responses to these questions, the simple yet difficult answer was to activate agency from within to be what I need unequivocally. To step in and hold up the stop sign and do what’s needed to slow down in the midst of urgent uncertainty. The reality is that, as much as we cannot control the urgent stressors that come our way, we can control what becomes of us as a result of how we intentionally interact with what we face.
The choice to slow down and go at a different pace is a challenge, but not impossible. In this upcoming livestream of Moving Beyond Burnout, I discuss the power and wisdom of moving at your own pace, in ways that are reasonable and rooted in lived reality. Pulling on wisdom from elders and healing practices, I provide ways to begin moving at a pace that is not just necessary but restorative to sustain you for the long run.
