More than ever before, work is tied to our passion and identity.
It is easy to get consumed with work that is centered on your passion. Many people find a sense of self-worth and identity in their work. And in this time, more people are choosing to not do work that misaligns with their values.
Purpose-driven work brings a sense of meaning to our vocation. Instead of doing work to get by, Black women are looking to see the impact of their labor in transforming whatever sector or industry they enter. One of the challenges of purpose-driven work is how our identity can become deeply connected - it can sometimes be challenging to distinguish who you are from what you do.
When who you are and what you do become so intertwined - the ups and downs of what happens in your career hits different. If things shift with your purpose-driven work, you may question your self-worth. Or you can go the extra mile to make your vision a reality which can involve taking more risks that can impact your wellbeing.
